The Mercedes GLE SUV Hybrid power. A plug-in hybrid version, the GLE 500e with its 7G-TRONIC PLUS 7-speed automatic can return up to 76.4 mpg with CO2 emissions as low as 78 g/km. In pure electric mode, it has a range of up to 18 miles and can achieve a top speed of 80 mph. Powered by a 245kW/480Nm 3.0-litre V6 turbo petrol engine and 85kW/325Nm electric motor the GLE 500e can match the straight-line performance of its GLE 500 V8 brother with acceleration of  0-62 mph (s) in 5.3 seconds with a top speed of 152 mph, the GLE can drive on electricity alone for over 18 miles at speeds of up to 81 mph. The GLE 500e can be driven in four modes: Hybrid which combines engine and motor; E-Mode for electric-only, E-Save which maintains the current charge level in batteries and Charge which powers the SUV on petrol alone while topping up the batteries through regenerative braking.
